Learn more about our Alpaca/ Merino Clothing

Given our web support system does not allow for too much content, we created this "learn More" listing to tell you a little about these different categories of items and why we do them and offer them. Thank you for reading!

Willow Wind Farm is the home to 150 ish fiber generating critters; 20 ish high end fine colored merino sheep and 130 ish Huacaya Alpacas. Every stitch of useable fiber is used for something. 

We have two layers of production.

Yarn; beautiful beautiful yarn. All manner of blends. Various weights. This is a small batch customized process and we LOVE our spinner. The yarns may have a single animals fleece or blanket or it could be a combination of multiple animals. We blend merino with most of our alpaca to give the final product structural support. We also produce some of the finest wool yarn around. Yes we do.

About 70% of the yarn is then handed off to various local regional weavers/knitters and many of our end products are the result of this process. Hats/Headbands/Scarves/Wraps/Cowls/Hand Warmers etc... These items are all pretty unique one to the other and we are 100% committed to this effort.

"Commercial Production": The "rest" of our fiber goes into some manner of commercial production. This is focused primarily on alpaca. Our signature fabric which is made in the NE by family run facilities is our main focus (Alpaca Alpine Vest/Pullover Throw, Mittens etc.). Its wildly unique. Its 100% alpaca (not including the recycled backing). Its singularly warm and soft. Its functional - some of the warmest, most durable and lightest gear you will have the pleasure to experience. In order to accomplish this piece, we often collect alpaca fiber from other farms in order to meet substantial minimums. We are extremely proud of this piece of our business. And this will continue to grow.

In order to highlight other qualities and characteristics, we also carry a curated selection of Peruvian made items. We rarely carry anything that includes synthetics (acrylic/spandex etc.) with the exception of socks. Peruvian mills have capacity to produce very fine yarn made of 100% Alpaca (Did you know that our domestic mills cannot do this?) which is then woven into garments and throws etc... We carry them to highlight the incredible qualities of alpaca and we are proud to work with a very select few providers in this area.
